Welcome to the website for the Ratana 10k. This is again in a Virtual format; there is no attended event set up by us.
After a few years’ break, we are back and looking forward to new runners and to welcoming back previous entrants.
Back Story. After the tragic loss of Sergeant Matiu ‘Matt’ Ratana in 2020, the event was created to assist his colleagues and friends in finding a way to show support to Matt’s partner and come together and share their grief and stories of the great man.
When the idea of a Virtual 10k was created, we were in lockdown with bans on organised group events. This actually turned into a positive, as we had people running individually, literally all over the world, and undoubtedly had more runners than we would have had at an attended event.
To date, over £100,000 has been raised, and as you can see if you visit our gallery, people of all ages have completed their own 10k their own way.
Now with restrictions lifted, we can run in groups or teams, and there is no reason why you cannot do your own Ratana 10k within another organised event.
The event will again be non-profit, with all funds going to the Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation and Matt’s partner, Su.
Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation
The foundation supports the design and delivery of school and community rugby initiatives, both nationally and internationally.
Our projects directly benefit disadvantaged young people from all backgrounds. They are aligned with, and inspired by, the values that Matt cherished, and the ambitions he planned to realise.
For just £50 we can deliver a session at one of our partner schools. Trained coaches, kit, equipment, admin, safeguarding: everything is taken care of. Your contribution has a direct and immediate impact on the daily lives of young people.
Every week, through both the foundation and our partners we are delivering change to hundreds of young people. And with your help we can deliver more.
